SPOTLIGHT: Creative ideas bringing the girl guiding community together

22 July 2020

Jo from Girlguiding North Yorkshire West has told us how they have been impacted by Covid-19 and what creative things they've come up with to stay in touch with their young people:

Our charity, Girlguiding North Yorkshire West, has been affected in a number of ways, most of all the girls and young women whose lives have been changed by the lockdown. As a face to face member organisation our volunteer leaders have been creative in how we have reached our members during this time by having online Zoom meetings, virtual camps, our hugely successful County Sunflower Challenge - which has seen over 1,000 girls so far take part in the UK, Australia and America!

We've sent out fun, creative skills for life packs and challenges for girls to do at home, and kept in touch via email and post. Our online Birk Crag BINGO nights have been great fun for families to take part in too!

Our redevelopment project near to Birk Crag has been hardest hit. We can't wait for lockdown to ease, the pandemic to be over and then enjoy sleepovers at Birk Crag again... if only it was finished! Any support is greatly received. You can become a Friend of Birk Crag , join us for online BINGO!, follow BIRK CRAG on Facebook, make donations or offer services - we need YOUR help to get this finished to support the girls of today and tomorrow locally and across the UK.
